Da Nang and Hoi An in 3 Days: A Relaxed Plan for Travellers from India
Da Nang and Hoi An sit side by side in central Vietnam and make a perfect three-day stop. Here is a relaxed plan for travellers from India.

Central Vietnam has become a favourite with Indian travellers, helped by beaches, the famous Golden Bridge and the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An. Da Nang has the airport and the beach hotels. Hoi An, about 45 minutes away by road, has the charm. Three days is enough to enjoy both without rushing.
Day 1: Da Nang city and the Marble Mountains
Settle into a hotel along My Khe Beach, one of Vietnam's best city beaches. In the afternoon, visit the Marble Mountains, five limestone hills with caves, pagodas and viewpoints. There is a lift up one of the hills, but expect plenty of steps inside. In the evening, look out for the Dragon Bridge across the Han River, which is lit up at night and on some evenings breathes fire and water.
Day 2: Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge
Spend the day at Ba Na Hills, reached by a long cable-car ride into the mountains west of Da Nang. The Golden Bridge, held up by two giant stone hands, is the photo everyone wants. Go early to beat the crowds, and carry a light jacket because it is noticeably cooler at the top. The hilltop also has a French-style village, gardens and amusement rides, which children enjoy.
Day 3: Hoi An Ancient Town
Head to Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with old merchant houses, assembly halls and the Japanese Covered Bridge. A ticket gives entry to a selection of heritage buildings. In the late afternoon, take a short boat ride on the Thu Bon River and release a paper lantern. After dark, the town glows with thousands of lanterns and is at its most beautiful. Hoi An is also famous for quick, made-to-measure tailoring if you want to order clothes.

Optional extras
- My Son Sanctuary: ruins of Hindu temples built by the Cham kingdom, about an hour from Hoi An. Indian travellers often find the Shiva temples especially interesting.
- Coconut basket boats in the Cam Thanh water coconut forest near Hoi An.
- Hue: the old imperial capital, a long but scenic day trip over the Hai Van Pass.
When to go
February to May is usually the most pleasant time, with sunshine and lower humidity. June to August is hot and good for the beach. Central Vietnam's heaviest rain and occasional flooding typically come from around September to December, when Hoi An's riverside can flood.
Tips for Indian travellers
- Indian restaurants are available in both Da Nang and Hoi An, and vegetarian Vietnamese food is marked "chay".
- Ride-hailing apps make getting between Da Nang and Hoi An easy.
- Carry modest clothing for pagodas and temples.
