Kuala Lumpur Sightseeing in 1 or 2 Days: A Practical Plan for Indian Travellers

Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is often a stopover between India and Singapore, Bali or Langkawi, but it deserves at least a full day. Here is a plan that works with jet lag and humidity, followed by the best second-day options.
Day 1: The essential Kuala Lumpur
- 8:00 – Batu Caves. Go early to beat the heat and crowds. Entry to the main Temple Cave is free; climbing the 272 rainbow steps takes about 10 minutes. Dress modestly, since knees and shoulders must be covered (sarongs are available at the bottom).
- 11:00 – Merdeka Square and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Colonial architecture and the giant flagpole; Central Market next door for batik and souvenirs.
- 13:00 – Lunch in Little India (Brickfields). Banana-leaf rice and South Indian vegetarian food are everywhere.
- 15:00 – KLCC Park and Aquaria KLCC. Good for kids, and indoors during the afternoon heat.
- 17:30 – Petronas Twin Towers Skybridge and Observation Deck. Book a time slot online in advance, because sunset slots sell out.
- 20:00 – Jalan Alor food street and Bukit Bintang. End with the lit-up towers from a rooftop or the KLCC lake fountain show.

Batu Caves, Selangor
Day 2: Choose one
- Genting Highlands: cool weather, the Awana SkyWay cable car, Chin Swee Caves Temple and the theme parks. Great for families; allow a full day.
- Putrajaya + Malacca: the pink Putra Mosque and government district, then the UNESCO old town of Malacca with Jonker Street. A long but rewarding day.
- KL Tower + Sunway Lagoon: the glass Sky Box, then a water and theme park, which is easy with kids.
Practical tips
- Indian passport holders: check the current Malaysia visa-free / eNTRI / eVisa rules before booking.
- Use Grab for taxis; it is cheap and avoids haggling.
- Rain usually comes in the late afternoon, so plan indoor attractions then.
- The KLIA Ekspres train reaches KL Sentral from the airport in 28 minutes.
